Letter reporting death of cousin Jesse E. Machen in Mexico and other men in his company due to measles, as well as political and social unrest in Mexico. Lewis comments that Mexico was in "a miserable condition - - Revolts, Rebellions, & Revolutions, with their train of miseries is felt by that unhappy country."
